      Description

ArcIMS is a map server, like WMS, but with its own dialect, ArcXML (see http://edndoc.esri.com/arcims/9.0/). Each server can support multiple image services. Start with <GETCLIENTSERVICES> to get a list of services, then move onto <GET_SERVICE_INFO>, and finally <GET_IMAGE>. Just like WMS. Note that some ArcIMS sites do not advertise their CRS, so are pretty useless as web services. But many do. For an example of a simple ArcIMS client in Perl, see http://mapserver.refractions.net/imsclient/ and download http://mapserver.refractions.net/imsclient/imsclient.zip
