Description
I have hit a some pretty hard feedback/confusion when watching users try out the split tool at a customer's site.
- Confusion between "Selection Split" and "Direct Split" workflows below:
- Selection Split Workflow:
- The selection can be established with the selection tool and.or table view
- The split tool is then used to establish the division (by drawing a line)
- The split operation is then performed resulting in two or more features
- Direct Split Workflow:
- The area under the line is used to establish a selection (I think this is done with a bbox on the geometry used for splitting)
- The line is then used to establish a division
- The split operation is then performed resulting in two or more features
- Selection Split Workflow:
- Unable to choose what to do when there are overlapping polygons
- Unable to split a multi geometry ( in order to grab just a couple of the polygons)
I have some ideas on how to fix this which I will explore in sub tasks; it is important to very clearly report this issue and ideas as Marco is in the middle of porting these tools.
