Cannot connect to SQL 2008

Description

I am trying to connect uDig 1.2 to sql server 2008 without success.
I've spatial and non-spatial data in sql server 2008.
As I write the location of my database etc in the add-layer window, I see a caption that says "validating connection". Then I see a red square after that legend. After filling in the add-layer window nothing happens.

I am not sure if I picked up the right priority for this issue. Sorry.
