Description
Right now the catalog view mostly offers a view of what services are known (and was only intended to show what services are connected). The Search view was supposed to be the centre of user interaction with services ...
A couple of ideas:
- split the catalogue view up by subject (file, database, webservices, etc...)
- try and show the relationships a bit more (services, data, style, friends)
proposal: http://udig.refractions.net/confluence/display/HACK/Catalog+View+Proposal
Activity
| Affects Version/s | UDIG 1.2.x [ 15072 ] | |
| Environment | current build on all platforms | khjtJq |
| Component/s | catalog, metadata and search [ 11251 ] | |
| Description |
There are several old requests for catalog improvements: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/UDIG-64 http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/UDIG-335 http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/UDIG-336 http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/UDIG-337 http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/UDIG-338 (these issues are now closed as this issue is an all encompassing feature) A proposal has been put forward to re-design the catalog by Jody: http://udig.refractions.net/confluence/display/HACK/Catalog+View+Proposal which would greatly improve the catalog. |

The following three proposals are related:
- http://udig.refractions.net/confluence/display/HACK/Catalog+View+Proposal (an iTunes style service / resource explorer)
- http://udig.refractions.net/confluence/display/HACK/GeoResource+Property+Page+Proposal (use the Properties view to show details about the current resource)
- http://udig.refractions.net/confluence/display/HACK/Service+Property+Page+Proposal (Use the Properties view to show details about the current service)
The idea is to explore information; and use the Properties view to show details about it.
