change style from simple to theme throws error - addThemedFTStoStyle

Description

After adding point layer from geodatabase attempted to change style from simple to theme.
Select Change Style > Theme;
select Attribute (2 unique attributes were found {0,1});
select a Palette; receive error message...
Error
addThemedFTStoStyle() failed
java.lang.NullPointerException

This is still an issue; uDig reports an error of "Style creation failed".
