Automatically create a user in the sonar db if authentication has been successfully done against an external authentication server

The user is automatically added to the default group 'sonar-users'. But this group can be deleted. In such a case the user has no roles and can access to nothing. That's why the group should be parameterized in global settings.
And what about adding a parameter that deactivates this feature ?

Hi, Simon. I've found following code in users_controller.rb :

  def prepare_user
    user = User.new(params[:user])
    default_group=Group.find_by_name('sonar-users')
    user.groups<<default_group if default_group
    user
  end

So, any new user created manually will be added to group sonar-users. But as you say - this group can be deleted Should we parametrize this too?

Also what about parameter "Allow users to sign up online (Users can sign up online. New users automatically join the group 'sonar-users', if it exists.")?

The group is optional when creating the user from the settings page, because administrators usually add him to groups as soon as it's created.
For the feature 'sign up online', you're right. The parameter should use the same parameter 'default group'.

New patch attached.

This patch adds two properties:

1. sonar.defaultGroup (default value sonar-users, can be set from UI) - affects any user creation (sign up, manually, authenticator), also I can provide Selenese TestCase for this.
2. sonar.authenticator.createUsers (default value false, can be set from sonar.properties)

Is there is a chance to get this in upcoming version?

An error is logged if the default user group does not exist.
