Description

DaCapo xalan is orders of magnitude slower than on most other JVMs.

Patching GNU classpath's OutputStreamWriter to buffer characters where there is no conversion speeds up xalan considerably (from 37 seconds to 14 seconds on our core2 duo). Patch submitted to GNU classpath for consideration, but maintained in jikesrvm for now.
