Lack of documentation of Plexus component lifecycle and internals

We are building an open source type safe framework and were evaluating plexus container for component life cycle management. Unfortunately the documentation that I found is very limited (for component lifecycles), some of the details of internals (reference to maven site gives a good idea as to what i am looking for ... some details as to how plexus works as opposed to what I as a developer should do to make plexus do the trick.)
