I've decided to move this issue from major to minor. I'm focusing now on adding logback support, and I've come to the conclusion that very few "real" projects are using the native java.util.logging package because it is so much less fully featured than log4j or logback.

I don't plan to work on this issue unless the community decides there is a need.
