OSGi Bundle support (OBR repositories)

Description

Add RFC-112 compliant OSGi Bundle Repository (OBR) support with the following feature set:

  • Provide the ability to natively house OSGi bundles (ie deployed from Felix maven plugin)
  • Ability to create virtual OBR repositories that will scan existing traditional maven repos, extract necessary metadata, and proxy requests
  • Ability to create virtual OBR repositories that will proxy local and remote OBR repositories
  • Add web interfaces for managing OBR repositories

Great info, thanks Wendy. I did a search on Archivas' issue tracker but didn't find anything significant.

Do you know, off the top of your head, what happened with this effort? Looks like the thread died shortly after it was created. Would be nice to know if it ran into any particular snags, although that was a long time ago in archiva history.

I think the effort stalled for other reasons. Certainly the changes we've made to the repository API recently were inline with this need. I'm happy to help on dev@ if you do hit any snags and want to try implementing this.

I would also add that robust and comprehensive bundle dependency management is critical for avoiding bundle dependency hell. Linux struggled with the same problem prior to the yum/apt package managers. Java struggled with the same thing prior to Maven. Once OSGI figures this out it will be a truly awesome platform.

Felix BundleRepository has been leverage in Karaf Cave to provide storage support.

I started to work on the OBR support in Archiva. I will submit the patch soon.

@Olivier: do you mind to assign this Jira to me ?
