hi, the issue is that if I import a maven project it hasn't proper "Java project nature" as it has if a create a new one. The project icon is missing the J letter and java file icons are different than in proper java project. Therefore the editor doesn't offer the usual features like javadoc hovering, or javadoc can't be generated because there are no proper "Java" files . If I create a new maven project, everything is OK. I have WTP installed. I spent 3 hours by playing with it, please help.

Are you sured you filled this issue at the right place? This project is about a plugin for Maven 1 to generate IDE files. Do you still use Maven 1 instead of Maven 2? Do you run "maven eclipse:eclipse"? Or do you use the M2Eclipse, a plugin for Eclipse. In the latter case, you need to fill the issue at http://issues.sonatype.org/browse/MNGECLIPSE.

In all cases, you would need to provide more information on the issue, like an example project and the steps you performed. Things are working for other users and from the few bits you gave it's hard to tell the difference with your config.

It is the plugin http://m2eclipse.sonatype.org/update-dev Maven Integration for Eclipse (Required) 0.9.9.200907071528

the same behavior happens when I checkout the project from eclipse. There is no way how to change the nature of the project

As said, then you need to fill your issue at http://issues.sonatype.org/browse/MNGECLIPSE.
