Could you please port the fix from http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MNG-1323 to 2.2.x?

there are unlikely to be any further 2.2.x releases. Is there something blocking you from upgrading to 3.0? It has been out for 18 months now and is largely backwards compatible.
