The pom given to pomFile parameter should provide the groupId, artifactId, version and packaging values just like in deploy:deploy-file goal

Description

For the install:install-file goal

groupId, artifactId, version and packaging should not be required if pomFile is given. It should retrieve the values in the pom.

Would be useful to know which version was affected and which one contains the fix... seems like I'm getting the same problem with 2.0.4.

Same here. Looks like the last release of the install plugin (2.1) was January 2006, so this hasn't been released yet. I just hit the same problem myself.
