Description

The 1.2-snapshot version still uses the old findbugs 1.2.0 release. Would be cool if the current release could be integrated (1.3.1).

The requirement to run Maven is Java 1.4.2 while Findbugs versions 1.3 and up require Java 5. I will look at the changes needed to see the difference required to support 2 versions of the plugin.
The current version should at least upgrade to Findbugs 1.2.1.

This has bumped the Java requirement of this plugin to 1.5, which in my opinion is not acceptable. Will there be a Java 1.4 version of the Findbugs 1.3.x artifacts?

Findbugs 1.3.x requires Java 5 to run.

We just had a vote on the dev, user and findbugs lists and all those that responded wished to update to Findbugs 1.3.x for the 1.2 version of the Maven plugin.

You can compile with the 1.4 switches using Java 5.

Which lists were that? I could not find any such threads in either mojo-dev or mojo-user lists.

My concern is not about compiling the plugin. That's a developer chore and can be dealt with. I do however worry about the users. All Apache Maven plugins have a minimum and maximum Java requirement of 1.4. I thought the same rules applied here in the Mojo project, but I could be wrong.

If a Mojo plugin should start to require Java 1.5 it would at least have to be advertised very clearly on the web site and also be enforced using maven-enforcer-plugin, so that users that are on Java 1.4 get a meaningful error message.

I think the fix version is wrong on this bug. Should be 1.2.1 or 2.0.
