  Gentoo Linux JDK 1.5, downloaded Maven from website.

With Maven 1.02, the .md5 sums are stored in the local repository with the files. They are no longer there for maven 1.1-beta-1. If this behavior is intentional, maven needs to check md5 sums for itself when it downloads a file.
