Description
I have installed a plain installation of Eclipse Helios SR1 ( eclipse.buildId=M20100909-0800).
I opened an empty workspace with java perspective to verify the installation was working ok.
I then use the update manager to install version 2.1.1.xx-20101215-2100-e36 of the groovy plugin from http://dist.springsource.org/release/GRECLIPSE/e3.6/
Restarted eclipse after update and loaded blank workspace again
Java perspective has disappeared and not able to do any java functions. ie. can't open java perspective, can't create new java project or file.
Looking in bundles.info there is no org.eclipse.jdt.core entry at all.
See attached files for eclipseConfiguration and bundles.info after update
This problem usually happens because your install directory is read only. Is your Eclipse installed in C:\Program Files?
It is not possible to install groovy-eclipse into a read-only eclipse install? See: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=332158
