Cannot install plug-in into 3.5.2 Eclipse because of a conflicting dependency

Description

I was trying to bring my Eclipse 3.5.1 deployment up to date. I had to uninstall the Groovy plug-in to get that to succeed, but now I am blocked from adding Groovy support back in via the update site.

Cannot complete the install because of a conflicting dependency.

Please use the dev update site, this should install fine into Eclipse 3.5.2

I have 3.5.2 and am experiencing this problem with both the release and the dev build update sites. I am running on Ubuntu 10.04 and also have Spring STS installed. Any suggestions for a work-around are welcome.

I'm also on Ubuntu 10.04. However, I have long given up on trying to use the Eclipse that comes with Ubuntu. I find I have much fewer problems if I download and install from Eclipse.org.

I guess Eclipse comes with its own logic on how to do updates and install extensions etc. Trying to make this work through the Ubuntu packaged manager tends to cause problems.

I also found that there are sometimes subtle (or not so subtle) differences in the versions. While this is a long time ago. The one and only time I installed Eclipse from Ubuntu I eventually discovered that the JUnit support was not packaged with it for some reason (I think IP related). Ever since then I've just been rather suspicious of the Ubuntu packaged version. I just don't trust it because it is hard to tell what the difference are with "the original", until you notice some "standard" feature doesn't work.

I do agree it is nice to be able to install things in Ubuntu via synaptic package manager as the "one stop shop", but Eclipse is the one exception for me. I'll always go to Eclipse.org to get it.

Another reason for doing this: Ubuntu's packaged versions are usually lagging behind. So if you want the latest version, you will have to go to Eclipse.org anyway.
