Description

I know this might not be directly a GRECLIPSE problem, but it is a blocker for me to update, so any help / suggestions are appreciated. When I select just the Groovy features for update in the update manager I get this:

Cannot complete the request. See the details.
Cannot find a solution satisfying the following requirements org.eclipse.mylyn.context_feature.feature.group [3.2.1.v20090722-0200-e3x].

P.S. that version of Mylyn is already installed.

Are you using STS or a vanilla version of Eclipse? And is that the entire message you are getting?

I am currently getting a p2 install problem when updating from STS, but not on vanilla Eclipse.

It's STS, originally 2.0.2 but upgraded to 2.1.0 last week from the s2 update site. As far as I know that's the whole message: it's what showed in the p2 update window. Is there somewhere with more detail?

OK, so you didn't install the STS + groovy version? The error message I am getting when trying to update with that is much different and longer. This is something I need to sort out.

But it sounds like you are hitting a different problem. Groovy tooling has no dependencies on Mylyn (or transitive dependencies that I am aware of), so I don't know why you should be getting this error. Is this Eclipse 3.4 or Eclipse 3.5?

I am bringing this up with the p2 mailing list. I hope to hear back from them shortly.

3.4's P2 error messages are mostly content-free. So, it may very well be that you are seeing the same error on 3.4 as others are seeing on 3.5.

Seems like this problem is not unique to STS users. I have a user who has m2eclipse installed and cannot perform an upgrade.

I believe that we have a solution to this. I have dropped the patched jdt feature version back from 3.5.9.qualifier to 3.5.0.xx-qualifier. We have tested locally and it works for us (ie- we have successfully upgraded STS to a new version, whereas we were not able to before).

The unfortunate thing is that in order to update to this new version, you must uninstall the old version because the new version's version number is lower than the old. This new version is currently building and should be available in about 30 minutes or so.

I am leaving this bug open until we have confirmation that groovy is now updatable in all situations.

I removed the dependencies on org.apache.commons.lang and org.apache.commons.io. This may address the upgrade problem. Waiting to hear back from the mailing list on this.

Help->Check for Updates has never worked for me due to conflicts. But recently I noticed that I can simply use Help->Install Software instead, without first uninstalling the plugin. Eclipse will detect that the plugin is already installed and perform an update instead, without any conflicts.

I'm still having issues. Maybe different in detail but definitely related.

I'm trying to install the plugin into STS (Eclipse 3.4). I select only the
Groovy and JDT features for installation from the snapshot site. The P2
error message is:

"Cannot find a solution satisfying the following requirements
org.eclipse.mylyn.context_feature.feature.group [3.2.1.v20090722-0200-e3x]."

This is the precise version of Mylyn that I already have installed. Why
would groovy care about that?
