Description

GDAL is a translator library for raster geospatial data formats that is released under an X/MIT style Open Source license. As a library, it presents a single abstract data model to the calling application for all supported formats.

GDAL is written in C so this task would require the generation of a JNI binding. As GDAL relatets to rasters the place to hook in to geotools would be the GridCoverage API.

Now plugin module has gt-imageio-ext-gdal which allows to leverage on GDAL via JNI bindings provided with imageio-ext.
