Description

For readonly rasters being able to provide overviews in a .ovr file is a good way to be able to use them efficiently.
The OVR-file can be generated by GDAL.

Interesting. Do you have time to also add a test? I guess one can generate the external overviews of some test data set we already have using GDAL (keep it small, large binary files are not welcomed in svn)

Very good. Just a last confirmation: the image you sent us is not under any kind of copyright and can thus be redistributed freely to the world? The code is on a publicly accessible server.

It is a copy of milanogeo1.tif already in the tests directory. The only reason I made a copy was to have the ovr testcase completly independent of milanogeo1.tif. Tests that uses that image don't start reading the .ovr file and editing won't mess up this test.

Thanks for the patch. I'm working on it.
I have slightly changed the tests in order to leverage on a reduced size test set (31KB against 170KB) to be put on SVN.

Note for future development:
It should be great to allow support this capabilities at higher level, for other coverage plugins too...
