      Description

It would be very nice if you could just upload your files directly to GeoServer, using the same mechanism that the sld uploader uses. This would require us to use David's DirectoryDataStore stuff, I believe, or else some fairly smart folder creation.

Beyond that it would be even cooler if you could have an uploaded shapefile create the proper postgis tables. I believe someone was working on this once, but I don't think we ever heard from them again. Would be a nice functionality though, especially if we could handle mysql, oracle, arcsde, ect.

We were discussing something like this on the suite ml yesterday, both me and Sophia think uploading shapefile via a web browser might not be the best idea, unless we actually provide a java applet that can do FTP or some other serious protocol for volume data transfers, with ability to restart an upload and no limits on the size to be uploaded

I am going to close this as there is now a community importer module.
