Description

The "official" specification for Grid Coverage is no longer "Grid Coverage implementation specification" (OGC 01-004). It is not ISO 19123. Current org.opengis.coverage packages should be replaced by interfaces derived from ISO 19123.

The whole GridCoverage packages in GeoAPI need to be replaced by new interfaces derived from ISO. We hope to fix this issue at this time.

Shouldn't we close this since it seems to be the same issue as GEO-80 (and GEO-80 is considered closed)?
"It is not ISO 19123": was it meant to read "It is now ISO 19123"?

I would suggest to close it after we get the interfaces approved at some OGC meeting and ready for a release. At the very least, we need to known in which GeoAPI release they will be bundled (2.1? 2.2? 3.0?) in order to fill corectly the "Fix Version/s" field at the top of this page...

I still unable to attend to OGC meeting for the next three months. But there is an OGC meeting planned in Virginia from 2006-10-02 to 2006-10-06 (http://www.opengeospatial.org/events/?page=upcoming). I should be in Canada at that time, so it will be much easier for me to attend to this OGC meeting and submit the GridCoverage interfaces there. We need to write a "Request for change" with at least an overview of the interfaces, a list of any addition or departure compared to ISO 19123 together with a rational for them. The document that you wrote like "ISO 19123 primer" can be of great help (if you agree that we use it).

After long absence, I am getting back to coverage work on GeoAPI and Geotools and I just saw this. Is it too late at this time to present the changes to the Coverarge interface to OGC?

It is not too late for suggesting changes (actually there is a few changes I would like to consider), since the interface has not yet been submitted to OGC for vote. I was hopping to attend to the OGC meeting last week, but abandonned the idea because I had no GeoAPI "request for change" ready.
