I have no idea in Catalan for the original meaning of the word 'tinderbox' (i.e. a small box of dry material used for lighting a fire). However, in the other sense (an unstable, volatile situation which is near to exploding), perhaps 'polvorí' in Catalan? e.g. "Per si algú encara ho dubtava, s'entaula una guerra al Pròxim Orient (la següent parada podria ser l'Iran) i les espurnes que salten s'acosten perillosament al polvorí del Líban".

Però això no correspon a la definició "a box containing dry material, used in the past for lighting a fire".
