I think we need to be clear about who Dacco is serving and this will impact on how we write our definitions.
1. Catalan speakers learning English. Here Lou's definition is perfect. If en Jordi is reading a text in English and encounters the word "hear", this definition gives a clear, unambiguous indication of what it means.
2. English speakers trying to speak/write Catalan. In this case the definition is a disaster. La Jane wants to know how to say/write "hear" in Catalan as spoken/written by reasonably normal people. Imagine the following: "Et fa res de parlar més fort? Amb aquesta fressa no et sento gaire per mitjŕ d'orella". If I said that I would be frogged marched to the French border and told never to return again. In this case the English speaker needs to know "sentir" is how you say/write "hear" in Catalan. The context will almost always sort out the ambiguity.
So... the question is how to we incorporate these two (sometimes conflicting) needs into Dacco?
