I'm sorry but I'm not sure I understand the noun 'sap' > 'sapa' (militar). The only Catalan military meaning of 'sapa' I can find is:
MIL Excavació de galeria subterrània o de trinxera
and the only English military word I know which at least begins with 'sap' is 'sapper' (BrE):
a soldier whose job is to build or repair roads, bridges, etc.
