Description

verb
esbufegar

noun (m)
esbufec

[expr] last gasp
en l'últim sospir
Un gol en l'últim sospir ha donat el títol a Sunderland [ha!! how do you say 'wishful thinking' in Catalan?] - A last gasp goal handed Sunderland the title.

[expr] [BrE] [colloq] to be gasping for a (+noun)

definition: to feel a strong need for something (most often a cup of tea or coffee or a cigarette)

example: I'm gasping for a cup of tea / cigarette / coffee

Is there any suitable colloquial Catalan expression that might work here? 'Sentir un desig molt fort de (fer una cosa - prendre un cafè / fumar un cigarret etc.] doesn't seem quite the right register somehow.

I've added 'to be gasping for' with the Catalan 'sospirar per' as David suggested but I have also added a <catnote> as I feel it is important that Catalan speakers realise this expression, whilst very widely used, is quite limited in what it can refer to.

<catnote>Aquesta expressió va seguida per un objecte directe, però d'un grup bastant reduït (generalment es tracta d'una beguda o d'un cigarret)</catnote>
