Description
Does anybody have any suggestions for the most appropriate Catalan equivalents for 'bystander' and / or 'onlooker'?
bystander:
somebody who watches something happening but is not involved. A 'bystander' does not choose to be there when the thing happens, it is pure coincidence. 'Bystander' often collocates with 'innocent' as shown in the first two examples:
p.ex. High-speed chases are dangerous not only for police and suspects, but also for innocent bystanders
In a bullying situation, there are usually bystanders, but they aren't exactly "innocent".
New guidelines from the American Heart Association are making it easier for bystanders to save lives
+ 'onlooker'
an 'onlooker', like a 'bystander', is someone who watches something happening and are not involved but they may well have turned up deliberately to watch
p.ex. (newspaper headline) Putting on make-up caused Britney to crash car say onlookers
Thousands of onlookers gather for the Amsterdam Gay Pride parade
