Description

to arrange, to agree to

also concertat (adj) in the sense of schools:

La majoria de CEIP són públics i, per tant, gratuïts, però n'hi ha tres de privats o concertats.

Termcat suggests "subsidised", but are these what we would call grant-maintained schools?

I've never really understood exactly what a grant-maintained school was so I looked it up in Wikipedia. Apparently, they were abolished back in 1998. Perhaps we just stick with 'subsidized' for 'concertat' then?

Oops! I didn't know what they were either and by the time I find out they no longer exist.

An example of a "centre concertat" is Les Alzines, the Opus Dei-run girls' school in Girona. It receives some state funding and from time to time there is "muttering" about this, as in theory it means they are supposed to admit anyone but of course in practice ...
