Description
cleave v. (formal)
aferrar-se
In face of change, Italy cleaves to 'la dolce vita'
Davant dels canvis, Itālia s'aferra a 'la dolce vita'
I'd say
"cleave to something" = aferrar-se
you need the "to" after cleave to distinguish it from,
cleave something = partir
peülles partides = cloven hooves
note that "cling to something" is much more common than "cleave to" in the sense of aferrar-se
