I decided to weed out some other aspects of this and just submit a patch for the groupSummary.jsp page and its associated files
I added a couple of methods to DefaultContinuum and its interface to get access to some methods that already existed on the store giving me the ability to mimic the current ProjectSummary page only in such a way that each project group gets its own table with a clicky title that will take you to a project summary page with just that projects rendering in the table. I tweaked the existing ProjectSummary page to allow for rendering under the current mechanism of all projects and the pared down bit with only a particular project groups projects.
I have some work done on the group management part but that can be seperate from this.
